Small Training Ride August 16, 2003
A very cool thing happened this weekend. We had plans to do the Brighton Dam ride on Saturday but the threat of rain and the promise for better weather on Sunday led us to delay our Brighton Dam ride. Instead, we opted for a shorter ride from the house. The ride that we do loops around the Agricultural Preserve and Goddard Space Center (NASA) for a total of about 30 miles. It is a good training ride, some rolling hills, a couple of longish climbs, and some flats. Once you get to the ag preserve the roads are clean, not many cars, and you feel like you are in the country. We have been doing this ride since we started cycling a little over three summers ago.
My average speed has been increasing as the summer has progressed. The last couple of times, my average speed was in the high 19s but I had never managed to break 20 miles average speed over the course of the 30 mile loop. Well, on Saturday August 16, 2003 - as we raced down the last stretch to the house - Kevin said that I would have to stay with him - and I did. We arrived at the house and he checked the computer, grinned at me and said - 20 miles an hour average speed on the dot. It is nice to see the results when the training continues to pay off.
Now back to the gym.
